About Erica Dunk & Hyper Haute

It wasn’t until a year ago that jewelry became Erica’s whole life. She studied fashion in L.A., and after class field trips to Rodeo Drive, she discovered she that while she may even not be able even “afford lunch on Rodeo, let alone designer pearls” she was walking away with the motivation to be a highly successful designer.

Her love for everything haute, vintage and couture, along with her intense fascination with the avant-garde and surrealism inspires working with an eclectic mix of materials.

She’s showcased jewelry in fashion shows for Paul Mitchell school, Rung, Pashmina, and was Ola Styles’ chosen jewelry designer for the Alive Magazine and Delux fashion weeks. She’s also been in numerous photo shoots with House of Style and was interviewed for their magazine.

Her signature piece is the chain lock necklace. The original was anchored by a fully-functional, gold chain lock used for doors and flanked by vintage white pearls. She’s made many variations since then and just recently created a bracelet version. Erica is currently working on her Fall 2012 collection, and we’re all very excited to see what her imagination holds for the future of Hyper Haute.

Our Favorite Day of the Year

October brings lots of great things to St. Louis: autumn leaves, Oktoberfest, joke-telling trick-or-treaters, another World Series win for the Cardinals (we hope). It also brings to light two major issues that threaten the health, safety and happiness of women all over the world. October is the month when we honor survivors and foster the awareness of Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence.

One of Rung’s favorite October traditions is the devotion of one special day to Lydia’s House residents for a private shopping party. Lydia’s House provides transitional housing for abused women and their children. During the private party, we provide lunch and a $150 gift certificate to each guest.

This year, 17 residents came, and our goal was to make sure they leave with at least 2 new outfits and an accessory. It’s common knowledge that the right shoes can brighten any woman’s day, so we also invited Madeline Long-Gill, executive director of Every Step Counts to give shoes to the residents. As always, they were a big hit.

We invite you take a look at our party pics and reflect on how the lives of these women can be transformed by massive programs, like those that Lydia’ s House provides, as well as smaller gestures, like providing a fun and safe place to shop freely among friends. The faces of residents are not shown, to protect their anonymity.

Beyond the Double-C: Honoring Coco

Chanel Window

This month’s window display honoring Chanel was designed and installed by Kim Hayes, Rung Sales Associate & Summer Intern Lauren Kasperski.

Today, Chanel is easily recognized by the double C logo, but the meaning of Chanel is much more than a quilted leather handbag. Coco Chanel revolutionized the fashion industry by creating classic designs that are still around today. Rung’s new window display commemorates the women who ultimately changed women’s fashion with her simplistic, elegant designs.

One side of the display represents a designer’s workshop and the other is an inspiration board for the Chanel 2011 Fall Couture line. The workshop symbolizes the beginning of Chanel’s career, working as a seamstress. The second part of the display shows what Chanel represents as a brand today.

Chanel’s life demonstrates the classic rags to riches story. At a very early age, Chanel had big dreams to escape her orphan life. Chanel followed her dreams, opened her own business and made her work known with little experience.

The story of Chanel support’s Rung mission to empower women to climb the corporate ladder!

When the Circus Comes to Town…

Circus StarThis month, we picked two of our favorite local performing arts organizations to showcase in our windows. The Circus Flora window is so much fun. We were finally able to get some decent photos today (thank you, overcast skies). But the photos hardly do it the justice it deserves. You’re just going to have to come and see for yourself. Then, go see Vagabond Adventures!

Only a few more performances left…

Award-Winning Mom

Rung is excited to announce the winner of its 1st Annual Hard-Working Mom Award!

In honor of Mother’s Day last month, we invited friends of Rung to send in nominations for Rung’s 1st Annual Hard-Working Mom Award. The essays have been reviewed. The ballots have been cast, and the winner is… Anne Klein! (Great name, eh?)

Anne will receive a $100 gift certificate and a “personal shopper” experience at the store. She was nominated by her husband, John Klein, and with his and her permission, we are delighted to be able to share the heartfelt essay that won us over:

I am nominating my wife as the most deserving Hard-Working Mom!

Anne Klein is the most beautiful & intelligent woman you’ll ever meet.  She has a Bristol Elementary 1st grader, and a 5 year old Lab School preschooler and works 40 to 60 hours a week for St. Louis County, where she is the director of energy sustainability.  As the County’s first Director of Energy Sustainability, Anne is helping manage over $8.4 million in federal energy funds and has invented new ways to help other middle class families fund their household energy reduction projects.

She’s also an avid physical fitness boot-camp goer and completed the Reindeer Run in Tower Grove this past winter is currently planning her next 5k race.  She’s a wonderful mom to her two children and keeps them busy with horseback riding, baseball, summer camps, swimming, and spring and summer family vacations.  No one’s a better working Mom than Anne Klein.

- submitted by John Klein

Congratulations, Anne! We can’t wait to see you in the store.
