Looking “Spectacular” in Monte Carlo: Rung Meets Royalty!

from left: president of World Circus Federation Laura van der Meer, St. Louis' own Jessica Hentoff and Princess Stephanie of Monaco

Jessica Hentoff, artistic and executive director of Circus Harmony, is on the cover of Spectacle all decked out in Rung attire!

These photos show Jessica attending the largest and most prestigious circus event in the world, the International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo. She was there to judge the world’s most acclaimed circus performers (with Princess Stephanie of Monaco) and to speak about a subject that’s near and dear to her life’s work, “Social Circus,” a global movement which uses circus arts to teach powerful social and personal tools.

Thanks, Jessica, for choosing Rung; keep up the great work in St. Louis and beyond!

All for Rung and Rung for All

March 2012In honor of Women’s History Month, the creative team at Rung developed a concept for an ad that would represent the 3 generations of women in the workforce today and how each generation should be learning from one another: mentoring, encouraging, sharing anecdotes and cautionary tales to make our community, and our world, a better place.

We invited Karen Klaus, development director at Operation Food Search; her daugther Devon Cahill, a talented performer; and Vivian Eveloff, Women’s Foundation board member and director at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Sue Shear Institute for Women in Public Life to model for our March 2012 St. Louis Magazine ad. Erica Dunk, Rung sr. sales associate, styled the ad and photographer Preston Page made our vision come to life.

Karen submitted the beautiful story below to help us further communicate Rung’s commitment to women helping women helping women…

I am blessed that my grandmother was a very strong role model in my life.  She grew up during the depression and had the perseverance to do the most with the least.  I remember that she was always very well put together and very fashionable, whether for work or for play.

I love looking at photos that were taken of her in her youth. Dressed to the nines in hat and gloves. Coyly posing in pictures romantically dedicated on the back to my grandpa. Or looking lovely in her jodphurs riding a horse.

She became a keypunch operator at IBM and worked her way up to managing a large office in St. Louis, looking beautiful in her heels and suit.  When the weekends came, she would change into her flats and capris, pack up her luggage (and me) and off to the Lake of the Ozarks we went to play.  At the lake, she taught all of my friends and me how to water ski, and after a waterlogged, sundrenched day, an amazing spread of food would magically appear on the table to nourish our hearts and souls.

She was an original Youthquaker and instilled a youthful spirit in me.  When I was a young girl, she made sure that I had Hullabaloo go-go boots and fishnet pantyhose in all of the day-glow colors.  I flipped for the matching mini-dresses that she bought for her and me that were made out of paper!

And another thing that I really loved about here was that she had the poise and confidence to wear a bikini when she was in her 50’s!

My grandmother taught me about fashion and style, despite some incredible hardships that she endured in her life.  She never wore her suffering on the outside.  Instead, what she took off her shoulders and draped over mine was her amazing capacity for love and incredible strength – a legacy that I hope to pass down to my daughter.

Rung Gives $10K to Women’s Foundation

On the evening of Wednesday, February 1, 2012, Rung Founder and President Ali Kindle made a champagne toast and presented a “big” check to members of the Women’s Foundation of Greater St. Louis at a special surprise party. The amount written on the dry-erase check was $10,000. Later that night, a real check for $10,000 was given to the Women’s Foundation from Rung. Both organizations look forward to continuing to work together to benefit the women of St. Louis.

About Erica Dunk & Hyper Haute

It wasn’t until a year ago that jewelry became Erica’s whole life. She studied fashion in L.A., and after class field trips to Rodeo Drive, she discovered she that while she may even not be able even “afford lunch on Rodeo, let alone designer pearls” she was walking away with the motivation to be a highly successful designer.

Her love for everything haute, vintage and couture, along with her intense fascination with the avant-garde and surrealism inspires working with an eclectic mix of materials.

She’s showcased jewelry in fashion shows for Paul Mitchell school, Rung, Pashmina, and was Ola Styles’ chosen jewelry designer for the Alive Magazine and Delux fashion weeks. She’s also been in numerous photo shoots with House of Style and was interviewed for their magazine.

Her signature piece is the chain lock necklace. The original was anchored by a fully-functional, gold chain lock used for doors and flanked by vintage white pearls. She’s made many variations since then and just recently created a bracelet version. Erica is currently working on her Fall 2012 collection, and we’re all very excited to see what her imagination holds for the future of Hyper Haute.

Our Favorite Day of the Year

October brings lots of great things to St. Louis: autumn leaves, Oktoberfest, joke-telling trick-or-treaters, another World Series win for the Cardinals (we hope). It also brings to light two major issues that threaten the health, safety and happiness of women all over the world. October is the month when we honor survivors and foster the awareness of Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence.

One of Rung’s favorite October traditions is the devotion of one special day to Lydia’s House residents for a private shopping party. Lydia’s House provides transitional housing for abused women and their children. During the private party, we provide lunch and a $150 gift certificate to each guest.

This year, 17 residents came, and our goal was to make sure they leave with at least 2 new outfits and an accessory. It’s common knowledge that the right shoes can brighten any woman’s day, so we also invited Madeline Long-Gill, executive director of Every Step Counts to give shoes to the residents. As always, they were a big hit.

We invite you take a look at our party pics and reflect on how the lives of these women can be transformed by massive programs, like those that Lydia’ s House provides, as well as smaller gestures, like providing a fun and safe place to shop freely among friends. The faces of residents are not shown, to protect their anonymity.
